2001:
Wow, let's see, what have I been doing for the last 10 years? I have to
say I've had some big life changes for sure. In 1994, the company I was
working for was bought out by a mother company which left my position
in the company no longer. I could either take my severance or continue
to work for a company which in my eyes no longer existed. So I decided
to take my severance. I took some time off which worked out to be about
eight months. I found a job working at Karas Trucking, a subsidiary of
BFI, in Brook Park in the accounting department. I stayed with them for
a while but decided it was time to move on in October of 1996 when I found
a job with Trans Union Employment Screening in Independence working in
the accounting department doing accounts receivable. I have to say that
has been my favorite job of all. Anyway, as far as my personal life goes,
I divorced in April of 1997 and moved in with my younger sister (Tracy)
in Cleveland. I had a great time for about a year and half. Dating nowadays
sure is much different, that is for sure. Yuck!
Anyway,
I had a couple of friends that were always trying to set me up on blind
dates. Never pass up a blind date, some can be crappy but some can be
great. Just remember you have a 50/50 chance. Anyway, in November of 1998,
my best friend Linda Schlichterle Pardee who works at Oberlin College
saw someone that we went to high school with and she was pretty sure that
he was single. He also worked at the college but at the Allen Memorial
Art Museum. I was coming in to town to meet up with her at Presti's so
she decided to ask him to join us. Anyway, oh yes, I guess I should tell
you his name, it was Mike Gilbert from the class of 1980. So the three
of us chatted for a couple of hours. To make a long story short Mike emailed
Linda at worked and asked if I was interested. I told her it was okay
to give him my number and he called me that night. By the end of the week
we went out on our first date and that was it, the rest is history. Mike
and I were married on April 27, 1999 and as of today, we are expecting
our first child any day now. It was love at first sight for us both. I
would have never thought that it really happens like that but it does
and can. He is the love of my life and it was the best thing I ever did.
I ended up leaving Trans Union just because the drive was getting to be
a bit much (40 minutes too much). I'm now working at Rock Creek Aluminum
in Elyria and have been there for about two years. I'm an Administrative/HR
Assistant. Mike and I bought a house on King Street in Oberlin and have
been living there for about a year or so now. All is good with us. I look
forward to seeing everyone!
