2004: I've had an exciting
and adventurous life since our graduation in 1979. Okay, maybe
not, but it's been eventful, I'll say that. I went to college
in Massachusetts. Amherst College. Lots of rich, preppy kids
there. Luckily, I made some poor, non-preppy friends and had
a good time regardless. After getting out of college, I vowed
never to return to academia again. (More on that later.) I
worked on a small farm on Cape Cod for most of my twenties.
It was great. I drove a John Deere tractor and pulled a lot
of weeds. A back injury at age 29 led me to a change of career.
I picked Psychology, packed up my car, and drove across country
to get a MA in Counseling Psychology from JFK University in
the San Francisco Bay Area. Fun stuff. After graduating in
1995, I worked for about seven years in the social services
field. Mostly with teenagers, which I found rewarding if sometimes
frustrating. In the meantime I had gotten married to my partner
Deborah (this is California, after all) and settled down with
her and her two kids in Santa Rosa, California. Then I turned
40. (Can you say "Mid Life Crisis"?) Deborah and
I broke up, I changed careers (I still toil part time for
Sonoma County Public Health, but am also working as a writer)
and I cut my hair. That's about where things stand now. I
look forward to seeing you all at the reunion!
