I am the Family Life Education Specialist for the Hampton Public Schools of about 33,000 students. I am presently vice-president of the Northampton Lady Lions, an auxiliary to the Northampton Lions Club of which my husband is president. My husband, Ray, is a professor at Thomas Nelson Community College with a PH.D. in History. We are both members of Our lady of Mt. Carmel Church where we have both been active in the church school. I enjoy bridge, needlework, am a part-time designer for local florists, and entertaining family and friends from Ohio. Ray and I have no children.

Three very pleasant surprises happened to me during the past twenty-five years. In 1980, I began
teaching Geography to Ninth Graders, most of whom were "at risk." The administration, faculty, and I, therefore, were shocked that two former students managed to nominate me for the Second and Sixth Editions of Who's Who Among American Teachers. Only students on the Dean's List in their first semester in college are eligible to make such nominations. No one had high expectations that my students would ever attend college.
Another pleasant surprise occurred in 1987. Virginia Multiple District 24-D made me the first woman in the Commonwealth to receive the Lions International Melvin Jones Humanitarian Award. This is the highest award presented by that civic organization.
The latest unanticipated delight came in 1998 when Ray and I retired--the best thing to happen to me since bubble gum!
