My wife Charlotte (Charlie) and I have one son, David Eugene. I have been employed for the past eight years with Northern Ohio Telephone Co. (now General Telephone of Ohio) as a switchman. Prior to that I held various jobs. I married Charlotte on March 1, 1969. I have been President of Local union 986 of the IBFW for the past four years; and secretary of the Wellington Kiwanis Club for the past year.

2000
I was in the Navy Reserve my junior and senior years of high school. I served two years active duty in the New London CT. area starting two weeks after we graduated. When my enlistment was up I returned to Oberlin. I worked at a number of different jobs looking for something that I really liked. In July 1966 I was hired by Northern Ohio Telephone Company (now General Telephone Company or GTE) in Oberlin. I worked 13 years in Oberlin, Wellington, Wakeman maintaining the switching offices. I was promoted in January 1980 to management as a Senior Training Instructor in Marion, Ohio. May of 1993 I took an early out package and retired from GTE on a Saturday. Sunday I was working for a small company in Johnstown, Ohio called Applied Computer Systems. They make the LINK system. It allows a teacher to see what students are doing on their computers in a classroom or allows the teacher to show all the students what is on the teachers screen. The only problem with the job was it was mostly telephone sales. After about 9 months I quit. I then started teaching Adult Ed computer classes at the county vocational school. I also started teaching at Marion Technical College and a local computer store school. All of these were part time jobs. Now I am an independent contractor for Applied Computer Systems installing their LINK systems in classrooms all over the United States. I made 15 trips in 1997 and 25 trips in 1998 and 36 in 1999. If you enjoy traveling in a plane, and spending time in airports it is a great job. I married Charlotte Slater in March 1, 1969. She works a Secretary to the Principal at River Valley High School. We have two sons, David (1972) a computer programmer, married to Lynne. Michael (1977), works for Today's Business Products training new sales personnel and customers on the operation of office equipment . When David turned 11 he joined Boy Scouts and I became an Assistant Scoutmaster. A year later in March of 1985 I became the Scoutmaster. Michael joined the troop 4 years later. I am very proud that both of my sons are Eagle Scouts. Since then I have been very involved in Boy Scouts. I was a Scoutmaster from 1985 - 1997 and the summers of 1996 & 1997 I was the Reservation Director at the Firelands Boy Scout Camp just out side of Oberlin. In the summer of 1998 I was the Camp Director of Camp Berry Boy Scout Camp near Findley Ohio. At both camps I was responsible for hiring a staff of about 45 people and providing a summer camp program for both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. In June of 1995 I found out I had cancer. I had an operation in October 1995. So far all tests indicate I no longer have any cancer. October of 2000 I will be considered cured. For that I give thanks to God.
