Paul Zeckel wrote me a lovely Christmas card with the following:

Dear Martha,

Here is a card from one of your classmates. It's been a long time since we went to the Oberlin High School. I lost my year book of our class. That, of course, is a shame. Since graduating from OHS, I worked on a farm out in New Hampshire; I worked there together with my brother. A lot of time has passed since I left Ohio. While going to high school in Oberlin, I found myself longing for the northeast in general and New York, in particular. To be honest, I missed the hilly countryside of the area of Peekskill, N.Y. As time passed, I spent several years living in Vermont and enjoying every second of those beautiful mountains.

So now I'm living in Holland. It has its pros and contras like anywhere else. Ever since my 27th year, I stayed in Europe traveling here and there. Opportunity knocks only once. What did I do? I tried to master Dutch, French and German.

I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, wealthy and Happy New Year. Please forgive me for not having written earlier. If you get a chance please write. By the way, my niece who now lives up in Sweden, was born in San Francisco. Take care and enjoy life.
