
Constance "Connie" Ellis Champion
Constance "Connie" Champion, 62, of Salida, CO, former Oberlin resident, died of brain cancer on April 26, 1997, at the Hospice of St. John in Lakewood, CO.
Born in Painesville, OH, she married Robert J. Champion on June 6, 1955, in Oberlin.
Mrs. Champion graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1955 and received a master's degree from the University of Colorado.
She taught physical education at Firelands School from 1955-1956 and in the Oberlin schools from 1966-70, when she moved to Boulder, CO. She taught physical education in the Boulder Valley School District from 1972-87.
She was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, volunteered with Hospice, and was involved in bereaved parents' groups.
She enjoyed bowling, softball, the Denver Broncos, and the Colorado Rockies.
Survivors include her former husband, Bob Champion of Boulder; three daughters, Linda Galusha of Boulder, Cindy Champion of Longmont, and Barbara Ann Champion of Boulder; a son, Steve Champion of Boulder; three grandchildren; a sister, Mary Kay Davies of Irvington, VA; two brothers, Frank Ellis of Paisley, FL, and James Ellis of Amherst, MA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Ellis Champion; and a daughter, Amy Beth Champion.
A memorial service was held on May 10, at the First United Methodist Church of Boulder, with the Rev. Jo Murrow officiating.
